Meister Hiro’s Challenge -

Hiro Sakai already owns and manages six successful high-end sushi restaurants and an Italian trattoria in Japan. The entrepreneur and sushi-chef left Japan alone in 2018 to open the counter style restaurant The Sakai in Frankfurt, Germany, in order to pass on the Japanese sushi culture and his skills to future generations outside of Japan.

In Germany Hiro draws on his thirty years of experience as a culinary artist to offer his customers a unique course menu based on Japan’s sushi tradition and local ingredients. In addition to his originality, the direct communication between the chef and customers over the counter, which is rather rare in Europe, made him popularly known by the nickname "Meister Hiro” in Frankfurt. His customers visit the restaurant not only from all over Germany but also from entire Europe to enjoy the OMAKASE sushi course prepared in front of them directly by Meister Hiro.

Through his happy customers who love his creation, the excellence of Japanese food culture and its meaning are passed on in Europe. When he left Japan he couldn’t speak English, let alone German, but his courage beyond the language barrier to follow his own will blossoms now in Frankfurt.
